The short version

Your messages are processed in the cloud: When the hosted Cloud Companion answers, the messages in that conversation are sent from the Chat Kim-E server to the Kimi API (Moonshot AI) to produce the reply. When web search is used, relevant search queries also go to Brave Search for every conversation style and companion profile, including the adult profile. If you run your own Local Companion, the conversation goes to your own machine instead, but web search queries still go to Brave.
What is kept, and for how long: Conversations you sync are held in the operator's private storage under your account until you delete them, plus up to ten recent backup snapshots. Separately, a count of replies and tokens is recorded to enforce fair-use limits — counts only, never the text of a message. Conversations are not read to run the service, not used for advertising, and not used to train a model.
Paying, and cancelling: Cloud Companion is a subscription charged by Apple, Google, or the web store — never by Chat Kim-E directly, and card details never reach this service. Cancel at any time in the same store; access continues until the end of the period you have paid for, and is not refunded for the unused part unless that store's own policy gives you one. Cancelling never deletes your conversations.
You can take your data out, or delete it: Settings → Account has Download my cloud data and Delete my cloud data, and both work immediately without asking anyone. Deleting removes the cloud copy; chats already saved on your own devices stay on them.
Kimi is a companion, not a person or a professional: It is a language model. It can be confident and wrong, it does not have a life outside your conversation, and it is not a therapist, doctor, lawyer, or emergency service. If you are in danger or in crisis, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line — Kimi will say the same thing, and it cannot call anyone for you.
This is a beta: Features can change, and hosted chat can be paused at short notice if a model, billing, privacy, or safety problem turns up. Your saved conversations, your data download, and the Local Companion keep working when it is.

Your account

Chat Kim-E accounts are individual. Creating one stores your email address, a hashed password (the password itself is never stored or logged), the time you last signed in, and a session version used to sign you out everywhere when your password changes. Your email address is used to sign you in and to send a password reset link if you ask for one. It is not used for marketing, and it is not shared.

Signing in sets one functional session cookie. It identifies your account to the server and nothing else. There are no tracking cookies. The iPhone app keeps its session cookie in the device-only Keychain and the Android app keeps it under Android Keystore protection; either way the cookie is for signing in, not for tracking.

Where your conversations live

Your working conversations are stored in your own browser (IndexedDB and localStorage) so they open instantly and keep working offline. Because of that, clearing your browser or site data removes the local copy on that device.

Conversations also sync to the Chat Kim-E server against your account, so the same history is available on the web app, iPhone, and Android. Server-side conversation data is stored in the operator's private Replit App Storage bucket, in an area scoped to your account. One account cannot read another account's area.

The iPhone app can additionally sync to your own iCloud account if you turn that on. That copy is between you and Apple; Chat Kim-E cannot read it.

How long things are kept

Synced conversations are kept until you delete them. Deleting a chat in the app removes it from the server and from your other devices on their next sync.
Backup snapshots — up to the ten most recent are kept per account, and older ones are pruned automatically.
Companion setup answers (the short questionnaire, if you filled it in) are kept against your account until you change or delete them.
Usage counts — the number of replies and tokens per turn, with the backend and model that answered. These carry no message text, and they outlive a cloud-data deletion on purpose, because a daily fair-use limit you could reset by pressing a button would not be a limit. They are removed when the account itself is deleted.
Subscription state — whether your Cloud Companion entitlement is active, when it expires, and which store it came from. Kept while the account exists.
Server logs — ordinary technical logs (errors, request status) kept briefly to keep the service running. They are not used to build profiles, and the server does not log message content.

What is sent to the AI provider

To produce a reply from the hosted Cloud Companion, the messages in your current conversation — plus any companion memories you have enabled and your companion setup answers — are sent through the Chat Kim-E server to the Kimi API (Moonshot AI). That provider processes them under its own terms and privacy policy. Please do not send anything you would not want processed by a third-party AI service.

If you use the Local Companion instead, the conversation is sent to the model server you configured on your own machine, and never to the cloud provider.

Web search

When the model decides a question needs current information, Chat Kim-E sends a relevant search query to Brave Search. This can happen with every conversation style and companion profile, including the adult profile, and with either the Cloud or Local Companion. The query may include details from your request or conversation that are needed to find a useful answer, so do not include information you would not want processed by a search provider. Results are returned to the model as untrusted text.

Companion memory

Long-term memory is off by default. Memories you explicitly add are stored in that browser and are sent with each prompt so the model can use them as context. They are not included in Chat Kim-E cloud backups. You can disable an individual memory or choose Forget everything at any time.

Voice

Speech transcription and read-aloud use speech features supplied by your browser and operating system. Depending on your browser, spoken audio may be processed by the browser vendor's online speech service. Chat Kim-E itself does not upload or store microphone audio, and typed chat always remains available.

Payments

Cloud Companion subscriptions are sold and charged by Apple, Google, or the web store, and processed through RevenueCat. Chat Kim-E never receives or stores card details. What this service receives is a signed notification saying whether your entitlement is active, when it expires, and which store it came from.

Your controls

Download my cloud data (Settings → Account) returns everything this service holds for you as one JSON file you can re-import.
Delete my cloud data erases your synced conversations, your backups, and your companion setup answers from the server. It requires a typed confirmation because it cannot be undone. Chats already on your devices stay on them.
Delete my account (Settings → Account) removes the account itself — your email address, credentials, usage counts, and everything above — and signs you out everywhere, immediately and without asking anyone. Account deletion lists exactly what goes, and how to ask for deletion if you cannot sign in. Cancelling a subscription is separate and happens in the store that charged you.
Export and Import in the app move your history in and out as a file, with or without an account.

What we do not do

No analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.
No selling or sharing of personal data.
No training of any model on your conversations.
No routine reading of conversations to operate the service. Monitoring is built on counts — turns, tokens, failures, refusals — not on content.

Children

Chat Kim-E is for adults and is not directed at children. Please do not create an account for someone under the age required in your country to agree to these terms.

Changes

This policy may be updated; the date at the top reflects the current version. A change that materially affects what is collected or how long it is kept will be announced in the app before it takes effect.
